Portraits or Still Life

Portraits

I would like to capture my children’ s Portraits for this project. I would like to portray a rawness and edgy feeling to the photographs, by using the concrete in my basement for my background with a variety of lighting sources; such as room light, lamps and window light. I would also like to try and play with the contrast filters and toners for different effects.

This photograph is an Inspirational Example of what i would like to achieve within my portraits.

Portraits

Portraits of my children; Damyn, Tianna, Kory, Owen.

Photographs were captured in my basement. I used the white wall and grey cemented floor as the background, while they sat on a 2ft x 1ft x 1ft wooded block. using a 3.5 Aperture and 8th of a second shutter speed.

Damyn

Son Damyn, Age 17.
F11 – 15 seconds exposure
2.5 contrast
This photograph was a happy accident. Its was double take (double exposure) by mistake. the blurred background helps Damyn to pop out in the front of the composition for a bold look. The effects that the double exposure left behind in the photograph created a visual element of what looks like there could be a piece of glass set in between and separating Damyn and his shadows. Damyn is a funny, down to earth, loving, caring yet serious young man and it truly shows threw his photographs.

Tianna

Daughter Tianna, Age 16 F11 – 14 second exposure,
2.5 contrast,
14 seconds burning edges.
Tianna is a quiet, caring, loving and down to earth, young lady who just loves being a kid and having fun and this photograph shows the essence of the Tianna I know and love.

Kory

Son Kory, Age 14
F11 – 16 Second Exposure
2.5 Contrast,
16 second – Burned Edges
Kory is a Shy, quiet and reserved young man who has a quirky and fun side that only comes out around people he cares about and is comfortable with. It took me a few photographs and his dad making him laugh, but I was able to capture his quiet side as well as his fun and quirky side in these three photographs.

Owen

Son Owen, Age 10
F11 – 12 seconds exposure
2.5 Contrast
3 seconds – Dodged feet
12 seconds Burned Edges
Owen is a caring, smart loving young boy who loves his long shaggy hair even when its in his eyes all the time. His sweet and innocent side is usually interrupted by his sassy attitude. Three distinctive characteristics of Owen’s personality have been captured within these three photographs.
